Music City Youth Orchestra is Nashville's

Founded by Walter Bitner, Tracy Silverman, and ten students in June 2007, MCYO now serves students in both middle school and high school with a string orchestra and a growing chamber music program. MCYO's musicians represent a broad array of backgrounds from across the metropolitan Nashville area; our current enrollment includes students grades 6–12 from twenty different public and private schools as well as students from homeschooling families. Our students include some of the most talented and accomplished young string musicians in Tennessee. Many have won honors for their musicianship including acceptance to and leadership at Tennessee Mid-State and All-State Orchestras, String Crossings at Belmont University, and the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts.

Symphony of the Mountains

The Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra (SMYO) recruits, trains and rehearses youth from Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia.  It is the only auditioned, regional symphonic youth orchestra within 90 miles of Kingsport.  Weekly rehearsals for SMYO are held on Sundays at the Kingsport Renaissance Center.  Membership to Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra is obtained by audition each year.  Student musicians in grades 12 and under are invited to apply.  The Symphony of the Mountains Primo Orchestra (strings only) introduces student musicians to ensemble playing and techniques, and serves as a preparatory setting for Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra.  The Youth Orchestra annually performs three free concerts: The Fall Youth Orchestra concert for the general public, the Youth for Youth concert, and the Spring Youth Orchestra concert.  The Symphony of the Mountains Youth Orchestra is conducted by Ross Bader.  The Symphony of the Mountains Primo Orchestra is conducted by Wendy Royston.  Youth Orchestra Manager/Librarian is Patty Denmark.
