DC Youth Orchestra

Founded in 1960 at the request of DC Public Schools, DCYOP has been an integral part of the Washington, DC community fostering the musical development of more than 50,000 youth. The first youth orchestra to perform at the Kennedy Center, DCYOP has toured 20 countries, played for US presidents and diplomats, and worked with esteemed musicians such as Copland, Maazel, Rostropovich, and Hamlisch. The program has received the National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award (formerly Coming Up Taller) and the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Arts Education. The Catalogue for Philanthropy selected DCYOP as “one of the best small non-profits in the Greater Washington region” for its 2012-2013 award year.

Many graduates have gone on to successful professional careers in music. Alumni include Daniel Foster, Principal Viola of the National Symphony Orchestra; Toyin Spellman Diaz, Oboist in the Imani Winds; Chris Royal, Professor of Music at Howard University; John McLaughlin Williams, Grammy Award®-winning conductor; and John Wineglass, Emmy Award®-winning composer.

 West Australian Youth Orchestra

 Founded in Perth, in 1974, the Association has enriched and diversified music practice in Australia, which in recent year has been through the delivery of six  ensembles which now include the Western Australian Youth Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Collegium and Sinfonietta String Orchestras,  the award-winning Flute Choir and a South West Youth Strings ensembles. WA Youth Orchestras’ 500 members are aged from 8 to 24 and are drawn from all parts of Western Australia. The Association regularly reaches live audiences in excess of 30,000 per annum.

Washington Metropolitan Philharmonic Association

The WMYO is proud of its distinguished history as one of the Washington Metropolitan region's oldest youth orchestras, established in 1971.  Our members hail from throughout the region and represent the outstanding instrumental music programs of numerous schools in Fairfax County, Arlington County, the City of Alexandria, and the District of Columbia School Districts, while including home-schooled musicians from throughout the region.  In addition to performing orchestral masterpieces the WMYO holds a long standing tradition of featuring our graduating seniors in solo performances of concerti with the orchestra.
